The last Ford Fiesta rolled off the production line Friday, July 7 marking the end of an era that saw the vehicle become a mainstay of millions of drivers around the world. The Fiesta has been sold in more than 50 countries, but will cease production then. Have you ever owned a Ford Fiesta?

The Fiesta was popular with first-time drivers and both young people and retirees, as it was affordable and reliable. The Fiesta sold more than 22 million vehicles globally over its 47-year lifespan. Henry Ford II picked Fiesta because of its alliteration with the brand name Ford. Back in early 2013, actor Jeremy Irons did an interview to promote a show of his, Shakespeare Uncovered, which was being shown on the channel PBS. This same channel was already showing Downton Abbey, a show that had already taken America by storm and could be considered a rival to Irons' effort. While trying to explain why his show would be the better one to watch, Irons compared Downton Abbey to a Ford Fiesta and Shakespeare to an Aston Martin. The comparison he made got the attention of Ford. Just a day after Jeremy's quotes emerged, the manufacturer posted an online video as a direct response to him.
