Colorifix uses DNA sequencing and nature's own colours to create sustainable dyes that reduce the fashion industry's use of water and harmful chemicals. The fashion industry diverts 92 million tonnes of textiles to incinerators or landfills each year, and less than one percent of textile waste is recycled into new clothing. Circ: A ground breaking solution to enable the recycling of polycotton fabrics, potentially reducing textile waste by half. They reverse engineer the discarded clothing, and separate the polyester from the cotton and create new materials that can be recycled again and again. They have recycled 100 tons of clothing that was headed to the landfill. Did you know that saves 130,000 kilograms of CO2 that would have gone into the atmosphere?

Tyres keep the world moving, but they come with an environmental cost. Their constant friction on roads releases harmful particulate matter, which results in invisible air pollution that's especially dangerous in cities. Enter ENSO, a more sustainable tyre company gaining international traction. Enso creates tyres specially designed for electric vehicles that are more sustainable and reduce harmful tyre pollution, leading to cleaner air for everyone. Today is all about celebrating an incredible milestone of 100 Million trees planted, but it's the individual stories, the years-long partnerships that, when the days are long and the challenges many, reinforce the importance of our simple but powerful mission. As these 100 million trees grow into maturity, they are: Restoring ecosystems that have been degraded by human and climate change impacts. Providing powerful social impacts that change lives for the better. Rebuilding critical habitat for threatened and endangered species. Protecting watersheds that provide drinking water for millions of people. Improving air quality by filtering harmful pollutants and releasing breathable oxygen. Absorbing carbon dioxide and storing it in their biomass and soils. In the face of the climate crisis, which can feel overwhelming, planting a tree is a simple action that anyone can take — and it is a powerful demonstration of hope in action. Over the past half century, Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, has undergone rapid population growth, resulting in the loss of millions of trees due to urban development in the city. With its population on track to reach more than two million by 2030, urban sprawl is encroaching on the forested, mountainous peninsula outside the city. Seventy percent of Freetown's trees have been cut down, and the city is already experiencing negative effects from the loss of these critical ecosystems. In 2017, devastating floods and landslides swept through Freetown, tragically taking the lives of 1,000 people. Such disasters, along with coastal erosion, are becoming more common. Led by Manja Kargbo, Freetown the Treetown is an ambitious, city-led, "pay-to- grow" scheme to plant, grow and digitally track trees, which aims to restore what has been lost and protect it for future generations.
