Results: Snow Angels

Students in a northwest Calgary school are helping out seniors with mobility issues by shovelling their snowy sidewalks. Every time it snows, students in grades 6 to 9 at F.E. Osborne School clear snow as part of a school program. The students, who are normally in physical education class during that time, say they feel proud helping out their community. They have been inspiring other people to help out, as others who see them do this, have joined in, and other schools are looking into doing this as well. Do you think this is a great idea for all schools in snowy areas to adapt?

Since 1999, Project Winter Survival in Toronto, has assembled and distributed over 35,000 Winter Survival Kits. These kits provide warmth and essential supplies needed for the homeless and less fortunate to survive on the streets, often making the difference between life and death. It is a sad truth that there are not enough shelter spaces available, and due to some of the rules at shelters (such as no pets), many of the homeless refuse to go there, because of these rules. So, if you can't get them out of the cold, at least try and make it a little more comfortable for them. Each kit includes 30+ essential items such as a sleeping bag, hat, gloves, scarf and more. Snow Angels is a London, Ontario volunteer organization that matches seniors or others with mobility issues with volunteers who will shovel their snow. Volunteers can check an interactive map to find out where their help is required, while those requiring help can request it. The map lets the volunteer know the location, size of driveway and who requires their help. This organization has been operating since 2015.
