New Year's became a holiday around 2000 B.C. in Mesopotamia, where it was celebrated in March at the time of the vernal equinox. The Romans also celebrated it in March until Julius Caesar introduced the Julian calendar in 46 B.C. and changed the date to January. The Scots declared it a holiday in the United States on January 1, 1801. Were you aware of the origins of New Year's Day?
