The mayor of Paris told French radio on Wednesday that she would swim in the city's River Seine next week, in a bid to show its suitability for the Olympics despite ongoing cleanliness concerns. Olympic athletes are set to swim in the river during the triathlon later this month and the marathon swimming in August. However, despite a 1.4 billion Euro (1.5 billion USD) clean-up plan, concerns remain over the river's suitability for swimming events. Swimming in the famous French river has been banned for 101 years because of poor water quality yet the mayor insists the water will be ready for the Olympics. Do you think the River Seine will be clean in time for the Olympics?

Protesters have expressed anger that billions of dollars have been spent to clean the water and that the river has remained too dirty for athletes to compete in. They say much-needed funds are being wasted on the games while neighbourhoods in the city struggle with poverty. Parisians are also upset that the river hasn't been cleaned in over 100 years for the locals, yet the government is spending over $1 billion to clean it for the Olympics. If this happened in your city, would you be upset? Yes, they are wasting so much money to clean the river for a one time event and it could go to helping the city

No, this is just what happens when a city hosts the Olympics, and Paris will make a lot of money from tourists for the Olympics

I'd be upset, but from what I am seeing, there seems to be no power in the people to get change from government when needed. We seem weak. | 0.04% | 1 |
