I have a car that is 13 years old. Come Jan I got a "check engine" light. I found out my transmission control module is failing. It needs a chip. But for months it's been on back order. I still need to get the grandkids to/from school & get groceries. I go no where else. I worry that I am doing irreparable damage to the car by driving yet I have no choice. I feel like suing the car manufacturers for them being more concerned about the new cars & forgetting about those cars already on the streets NEEDING chips that they can't get. If this was affecting you, would you feel the same, want to sue to get companies to get some perspective? Yes

I have no idea when the back order chips will come in as the car dealers/repair centers say they don't know. Would you continue to wait for the chip to come in or break down & buy another car? Yes I would wait for the chip no matter how long it took.

On top of this my registration is due this month, but I can't get it registered w/a check engine light on. Would you continue to drive in hopes that the chip would come in soon & you wouldn't get caught w/an expire registration or would you look into renting a car? I would wait.

I would try & see if the smog place didn't notice the check engine light on the diagnostic So I could register the car in time.
