I consider the gift certificates from TW to be my "mad money." This is money I can spend on whatever I like without having to worry about budgets, product quality, practicality or even if i need the item. Some of the items are particularly enjoyable because I didn't know the product existed and I have been surprised the item worked just as described.. Here are some examples.

The first item that comes to mind is this small, portable and practical space heater. It has a proper thermostat with LED readout, is extremely quiet and doesn't have cables to trip over. It has a timer so it can switch itself off after one goes to bed. It even has a remote. Price was under $25. Is this a good use of my mad money?

The next item (or items since I bought 4 of them) is this plug-in surge protector. Brown outs, storms and other types of power surges can wreak havoc on today's delicate and expensive electronics. These not only give you extra outlets, they give you peace of mind. I wish I had bought these before my electric fireplace got toasted. At $9.99 each, was this a good use of my mad money?

These next items came in a pack of 4 solar, motion detection, security lights for $40 with shipping included. They help keep felons and raccoons at bay. I used Velcro to mount them in areas where I couldn't use screws. They double as patio lights in the summer and lights to shovel snow by on dark winter mornings. For the price I paid are they a good use of my mad money?

This last is my best value purchase at $2.71 each. It is a waterproof, solar powered, hand crank, LED flashlight. I dropped something inside my truck and my battery flashlight was dud. This little gizmo always provides light where and when I need it. I bought so many of them (8 I think) they ran out of stock. The kids got a cheap gift at Christmas and the rest are in the parts of the house that are furthest from a light switch, such as the basement crawl space. No doubt a good use of my mad money?
