In 1946: The RadaRange, the first commercial microwave, was sold to restaurants, ship galleys and canteens. By 1955, Raytheon had begun licensing its microwave technology, and the first microwave oven designed for consumers went on sale from Tappan. The Tappan RL-1 was wall mounted and cost US $1,295 (almost $11,000 today), putting it out of the reach of most people. A photo of a woman holding a baby and placing a jar in an early microwave. Ten years later, Raytheon acquired Amana Refrigeration, and the first Amana Radaranges started showing up on household countertops in 1967 for a more affordable $495.00 I remember my Mom really wanted an Amana RadarRange in 1967. This induces polar molecules in the food to rotate and produce thermal energy in a process known as dielectric heating. in the 1980s I dated a guy who was afraid of Microwave Ovens and would not eat Microwaved Food. Although the technology that powers the microwave has changed very little since the first countertop models arrived in kitchens in 1967, modern units can do much more than merely reheat yesterday's leftovers. Many of the latest models provide automated heating functions for various types of food and even offer speed-cooking, convection and grilling capabilities. Today's microwaves offer a cooking method that does not heat the kitchen, is more energy-efficient than conventional cooking methods using a cooktop or convection oven and is available at a reasonable price. The Best Microwave Review from America's Test Kitchen. Todays Microwaves comes in many sizes and wattage levels. Some popular features are: Sensor cooking; The option to silence beeping; a handle for opening and closing; a matt finish that doesn't show every fingerprint; "End" Symbol shows the task is finished. Features that did not impress - Voice control via Google or Alexa was not effective, Scan to Cook, using an App - did not work 3 out of 5 times. Do you use any Special Features on your Microwave?
