No, I'm not advocating taking off with another traveler's luggage. Every year, thousands of suitcases get lost, are never claimed, and have no address tags -- essentially left for the "taking". While most airports must wait about 90 days for someone to claim these bags, many are never claimed. Of course, some of these suitcases are from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which is the busiest airport in the world. Have you ever had your luggage lost, damaged or delayed when traveling?

About a three hour drive from the world's busiest airport, Scottsboro, Alabama's Unclaimed Baggage is the only store in the U.S. that buys lost luggage from transportation companies, and sells it back to the public at a discount. Since it started in 1970, it's become a top tourist attraction in the state, claiming more than a million visitors a year. Have you ever gone to Unclaimed Baggage?

It's only after an extensive three-month search that an unclaimed bag is deemed truly unclaimed, a fate realized by less than 0.03% of all checked luggage. Still, that amount is enough to fill the store with luggage. More and more travelers prefer to only take carry-on luggage, or, book non-stop trips to try and avoid luggage being misdirected. If you have ever lost your luggage, has it ever been considered "lost" and you never got it back?

Besides the obvious items found in unclaimed luggage and sold at the store --clothing, footwear, toiletries, souvenirs and of course, the actual suitcases-- there have been some very unusual items discovered as "unclaimed". All of these items have been discovered, but placed either with museums or displayed, and not sold in the store. Which of these items are you surprised that someone would not claim?
