Results: Sometimes A Cigar Is Just A Cigar

One of Freud's most famously mis-quoted sayings is 'Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar'. The phrase is constantly attributed to Freud, but there is no evidence that Freud ever said or wrote it. He did, however, say 'Smoking is one of the greatest and cheapest enjoyments in life, and if you decide in advance not to smoke, I can only feel sorry for you' and other quotes, such as the one here. It's hard to think about cigars without thinking about Cuba. Cuban cigars as a whole have a global reputation. A reason for this is a strong flavor profile, a result of their particular type of shade-grown tobacco. A 1962 embargo historically made Cuban cigars illegal for most U.S. consumers. Although Cuban cigar brands continue to be of great fascination, cigar connoisseurs are still unable to purchase Cuban cigars online from within the United States. Cubans working in the cigar factories enjoy a rather interesting history. The factory workers hired readers, or lectors—rather than factory owners—to entertain and inform them as they performed the monotonous task of hand-rolling hundreds of cigars each day. This practice dates back to 1865. In fact, the famous Montecristo cigars name comes from the novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas. The tobacco store reader read the novel to the Torcedores (cigar makers) at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, where the brand was founded in 1935. Did you know this?
