Surtsey Island, Iceland is an uninhabited volcanic island located in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago off the southern coast of Iceland. The island is actually the youngest in the world that form in 1963 from an underwater volcanic eruption. It took 16 days to form. The purpose of strictly prohibiting visits to Surtsey is to ensure that colonisation by plants and animals, biotic succession and the shaping of geological formations will be as natural as possible and that human disruption will be minimised. Mezhgorye, Republic of Bashkortostan. Mezhgorye is a closed town in Bashkortostan, Russia located in the southern Ural Mountain. It is close to Mount Yamantau and about 100 miles from Ufa, the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Its close proximity to Mount Yamantau is notable because since the 1990s satellites images have picked up major excavations and activity. Despite numerous inquiries, the Russian government has given a myriad of responses that have not given a full or completely credible answer. Some of the responses have claimed it is a food storage bunker, a bunker for Russian leaders, and even a huge mining operation (mining what? Who knows). Many believe that there is some secret base located there. Though over 17 thousand people live here, its unclear to what is going on. Which is why this is dubbed the Area 51 of Russia. Fort Knox, USA. Located in Kentucky. Home to many famous fictional heists. Houses the countries largest gold storage. The Fort Knox vaults, home to most U.S. gold reserves, have been deemed the most heavily guarded place on the planet. No single person can make it into the vault; several combinations need to be entered to gain access, and various staff members know just one. Only those with a DOD ID can enter the grounds. Fun fact that Fort Knox has stored valuable items for other government agencies, including the Magna Carta, and the crown, sword, scepter, orb, and cape of St. Stephen, King of Hungary before being returned to Hungary in 1978.
