Trivia
There is a TV "Quiz" show I can recommend called QI which stands for Quite Interesting. Guests get points for how interesting their answers are more than if they are factually correct. I like the show because it builds on my personal objective of always learning new things about old things that I took for granted. Here are a few.

If he was able to take advantage of the scientific principles he developed later, Albert Einstein could still be alive today. If he could have hopped aboard a spaceship travelling at 99 percent the speed of light in 1879--the year of his birth--he would be only 17 years old upon his return to Earth today. The world he came back to would make him think he had been in a time machine. I find that interesting. Do you?

When I fly back to "the old country" of Scotland the plane doesn't head east as some might imagine. It actually heads north and instead of flying over Ireland it flies over Greenland and Iceland and arrives from the north. When I flew to Scotland one summer's evening I watched the sun get low in the sky and then come back up again without it ever getting dark. If you follow the flight path on a map, do you find this interesting like I did?

When (if) you take a flight, do you follow the route on a map along the way? Did you discover anything interesting?
  • Flew over the top of mount St. Helens on one trip and looked down into the crater.
  • N/A
  • I "need" to know the time when the plane starts to descend, so I can put my earplugs back in.

When we think of supersonic air travel, most of us might remember the Concord and how different it looked from the ordinary planes the less wealthy fly on. But 3 of these ordinary planes went supersonic almost by accident. The 3 that surpassed the speed of sound included one which hit 835 mph instead of its normal max of 600mph. The cause was an extremely fast jet stream of more than 200mph. Although the plane was faster than the speed of sound it didn't create a sonic boom because it was flying "only" 600mph in air that was already going 200mph for the combined speed of 800mph. I found this interesting. Do you?

Have you ever driven on a freeway for long enough that you no longer noticed the speed (until you had to slow down to exit)?

I was babysitting the grandkids and they were having a spat. I said they were to get as far away from each other as possible and then thought "how far that would be"? I got them involved and a globe and we wondered what would happen if we spilled some really hot sauce in the kitchen and it went straight through the floor and kept going all the way to the other side of the planet. Where would that place be? It wasn't where we thought it was. For example Shanghai (China) is directly opposite Buenos Aires (Argentina) . A Google search for 'antipode' and 'map' will find it for you. But only about 15% of land territory is antipodal to other land so if you bored a hole to the other side, you could drown. Interesting?

I thought the antipode of where I live would have similar weather - it doesn't. How about where you live?
  • Dunno
  • San Diego, CA has such changeable weather--who knows?
  • I really do not care.
