Revive our Oceans -We refuse to accept a world where turtles, dolphins and coral reefs vanish from our seas. We choose to bring forward a new era where everyone uses the ocean sustainably. Over the last ten years, the evidence that we face urgent challenges to protect the environment has become indisputable, and it's clear that the time to act is now. The Earthshot Prize: an ambitious set of challenges to inspire a decade of action to repair the planet. Do you believe in the power of human ingenuity to prove to us all that the seemingly impossible is possible?

Ruth Deborah Gates (March 28, 1962 – October 25, 2018) was the Director of the Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology and the first woman to be President of the International Society for Reef Studies. Her research was dedicated to understanding coral reef ecosystems, specifically coral-algal symbiosis and the capacity for corals to acclimatize under future climate change conditions. Doctor Gates is most accredited with looking at coral biology and human-assisted coral evolution, known as super corals, as notably seen in the documentary Chasing Coral, available on Netflix. "Ruth was among the first scientists to establish innovative research to increase resilience in coral reefs," notes Kira Hughes, the Ruth Gates Laboratory's program manager at the Hawaii Institute. "Although controversial at the time, she embraced the challenge and made it her mission to bring awareness to the urgent need for coral interventions." Dr. Ruth Gates developed three steps in a form of natural selection 1) Selective Breeding 2) Stress Test 3) Symbionts. Were you aware of the late Dr. Ruth Gates?

The Center for Whale Research gathers detailed information on the behavior and ecology of these animals, including information on where the animals are in geographic location and time, and their social behavior and foraging patterns. This dataset has provided ground-breaking insight into killer whale biology and ecology that we hope will help to inform management decisions to conserve this vulnerable and now endangered population. They have collected detailed demographic data on the Southern Resident killer whale population, recording all observed births and deaths. How this talented pup is helping killer whale researchers. In a bid to discover why so many killer whales are dying prematurely, researchers have found a way to non-invasively collect faecal samples with the help of sniffer dog Eba. Are you surprised that a dog is helping the research scientists by pin pointing whale scat samples for them?
