Max Hidalgo Quinto (Peru) founded Yawa, building portable wind turbines that harvest up to 300 litres of water per day from atmospheric humidity and mist. "Max Hidalgo exemplifies the type of ingenuity we need to enable communities to respond to the climate emergency we are in," said Miriam Hinostroza, an environmental economist specialising on energy, climate and sustainable development at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). "We need solutions, including those based on nature that are affordable and scalable so that low income communities can also become climate-resilient." Concrete is responsible for an extraordinary eight percent of the world's co2 emissions. Low Carbon Materials want to clean up construction. It makes OSTO, a carbon-negative alternative to traditional aggregate, one of concrete's main ingredients. Low Carbon Materials (LCM) makes a carbon-negative aggregate called "OSTO". OSTO is designed to replace traditional aggregates in concrete, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the construction industry. LCM has been recognized for OSTO's innovative use of waste materials and its potential to revolutionize the construction sector. Were you aware that they can take waste materials to manufacture a Lower Carbon Concrete?

According to the UN, removing CO2 is essential if we are to limit global warming. While many companies have made progress capturing CO2 from the atmosphere, storing – or better still eliminating – millions of tonnes of it cheaply and safely remains a challenge. Named after the molecular weight of carbon dioxide, 44.01 removes CO2 permanently by mineralising it in peridotite, a rock found in abundance in Oman as well as in America, Europe, Asia and Australasia. Were you aware of peridotite rock being used for carbon capture purposes?

Coastal Communities that fish sustainably have had no reliable way to document the source of their catches. This creates an enormous challenge for both conservation efforts and the millions of people who depend on small-scale fishing for their income. Solving the overfishing problem and restoring fish populations requires the support of local communities who depend on fishing for their livelihoods. Enter ABALOBI, are not only safeguarding our oceans but also fighting for fair wages and ensuring fresh seafood reaches communities across South Africa. ABALOBI was founded in South Africa by Serge Raemaekers and Nico Waldeck as a non-profit partnership between fishers and scientists. Its aim is to protect small-scale fishing communities and nurture their ocean stewardship, while arming their customers with better information about where their seafood comes from. An ABALOBI app connects fishers with a digital marketplace where they register their catches and log precisely how, when and where the fish originate. For the first time, small-scale fishers have a tool to demonstrate transparently that they are fishing sustainably, and in exchange, they receive a fair price for their catch. Were you aware that a lot of women are fishing for their livelihood?
