Recently someone used the word "sammies" in a survey for sandwiches and I knew instantly what they were referring to, yet a number of people asked (sarcastically)? what's a sammie? I had a g/f (who drove all the way from BC to my province to see me :D) who used to call them "sammiches". Language is forever changing, evolving, yet some people seem stuck in the past and believe there is only one way to do/say/things. Do you live by a strict set of rules when it comes to language and words, or do you just relax and enjoy the creativity of people and go with their flow?

Relax and enjoy! Honestly our family has "isms" which stem from when my now adult kids were little. Some fun things they used to say that we still use and laugh merrily about (never maliciously!) POP PORN (popcorn), HAMBERBURG (hamburger), PUMPA DOAH (Grampa soda, Pepsi), MY FIRST BEERS (a book called My First Prayers), DUH KYRIE (daiquiri), CHI KAY GO (Chicago), Frank Cilantro (Frank Sinatra, but it was really Michael Buble singing), CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE (the Monkees' song She, my middle daughter thought they were singing cheese, which I happened to be shredding at the time that she sang Cheese)...and so on! Such treasured memories. We also say Sammiches too by the way, just for fun.

Some yes, some no; If a new phrase is useful I may adopt it (eg. "persons" / "people"); If it's just different (eg. "sammies" / "sammiches" / "sammidges"), I'll ignore it; If there's already a good way, and the new phrase is unnecessary, or worse, incorrect, I'm not a fan (eg: " 's" is a possessive, not a plural); That's just confusing.
