I took a general education class in college that taught about "Healthy Skepticism" - The basic premise being that a person should never accept new information blindly. That they should consider the new information, its source and intent, and be willing to think critically about what is presented.

If anyone mentions something against their preferred religious or political position, it seems like most people move from a "healthy skepticism" to an unhealthy one (overly stubborn, defensive). This at least has been my observation, have you noticed this as well? Yes
