Ice cream will not be mentioned. I don't believe anyone actually screams for ice cream...

According to art historian Helen Tedeschi, "The Scream" by Edvard Munch has the rare ability to "...communicate a specific meaning almost immediately to almost every viewer." Do any of these paintings (from Tedeschi's list of such works) communicate a specific meaning to you?

Published in 1970, "The Primal Scream" touted Arthur Janov's Primal Therapy for mental illness. Now widely discredited, therapy patients were meant to repeatedly experience and express long-repressed childhood trauma and pain. (A kind of "better out than in" idea that makes me think more of toddler tantrums and lab puppies with the barking zoomies than therapy) But to be fair, John Lennon said that following his therapy, "I no longer have need for drugs, the Maharishi, or the Beatles." So, there's that. Do you ever scream as a means of releasing emotion?

Someone is sure to call me out for not including the band Scream, but hardcore punk is not my jam. And while slasher/horror movies aren't my thing either, it would be churlish not to mention the Scream film franchise as "Scream 7" is set to hit theaters in 2026. Are you eagerly awaiting the release of this film?

There is strong evidence that actor, singer, songwriter Sheb Wooley is the voice of the famous stock sound effect known as the Wilhelm Scream. Since it was first recorded in 1951, the scream has been heard in more than 400 movies- including "Star Wars: A New Hope." Those who are interested can mosey over to Wikipedia to hear a clip of the scream or to YouTube to see compilations of its use in films. Or you can just bask in the memories of Wooley as trail scout Pete Nolan on "Rawhide" while listening to his hit "The Purple People Eater" from every Halloween party playlist ever. Before this survey, were you familiar with the Wilhelm Scream?
