Canada has the longest coastline of any country in the world - 240,000 kilometres in fact.

Canada is the second largest country in the world - Russia is the biggest.

Vast as it is, 80% of Canada's population lives within 200 kilometres of the US border (to be close on hand if the US decides to invade).

2. Here are three more interesting facts about Canada. Which of them did you just learn today?

Canada has the largest uninhabited Island in the world called Devon Island. It is so bleak and inhospitable it is used by NASA to simulate moon and Mars missions.

Canada has a desert, complete with sand dunes and rattlesnakes. Temperatures there can soar to 40C. The town of Osoyoos, BC is in the middle of this area. Its dry, arid climate, hot summers, high evaporation rates, and specialized flora and fauna, qualify it as a desert environment.

On the other end of the spectrum is the town of Alert in Nunavut. It is the northernmost continuously inhabited place in the world. The location is only 817 km from the North Pole. It is closer to Moscow than it is to Ottawa. In the winter it has almost 6 months without any daylight and in the summer it has the opposite when the sun never goes down.
